The International Thespian Society (ITS), founded in 1929, is the honorary organization of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) for high school and middle school theatre students. ITS is located at more than 4,900 affiliated secondary schools across America and abroad. The mission of ITS is to honor student achievement in the theatre arts. High school inductees are known as Thespians and junior high/middle school inductees are known as Junior Thespians. Since 1929, EdTA has inducted more 2 million Thespians into ITS.

Mississippi Thespian Festival
Every year, ITS members have the opportunity to travel to the Mississippi State Festival and compete in various events, see shows, and talk to college representatives. During the trip, students have the opportunity to:
Participate In Individual Events: Students may compete in front of a panel of adjudicators in both performance and design aspects of theatre. Students who receive a rating of ‘superior’ are invited to compete at Nationals.
Earn Scholarships: Seniors have the opportunity to compete in front of a panel of adjudicators in both performance and design aspects of theatre to earn college scholarships.
Participate In Workshops: Over 50 workshops and masterclasses are offered, taught by professionals from all over the world. College Outreach: Colleges observe students and request interviews based on participation in workshops, Individual Events, and One Acts.
